What is Mebicar?

Mebicar (Adaptol) is a preparation initially developed as an anti-anxiety agent. Other names used are Mebicarum, Mebikar, Мебикар, Tetramethylglycoluril, 1,3,4,6-tetramethylglycoluril and temgicoluril. Like other preparations developed by Eastern European scientists, such as Semax and Selank, Mebicar’s initial purpose was to alleviate anxiety, However, it turned out that the preparation not only does not suppress cognitive function (as some anti-anxiety preparations do), but actually improves it. Therefore, it has found use as a nootropic agent.

Application of Mebicar

Mebicar is used as a preparation with anti-anxiety effects, reducing anxiety and increased nervous tension. The product can also be used to relieve neurotic disorders. Most importantly – its use is not accompanied by suppression of physical and mental activity, as is the case with many other anti-anxiety preparations. What’s more – Mebicar improves cognitive function. Therefore, it finds use as a nootropic preparation, improving memory and concentration. It has a beneficial effect on mental well-being and alleviates ADHD symptoms.

The product can abolish the side effects of neuroleptic drugs, as well as facilitate smoking cessation. It can counteract epileptic seizures, as well as relieve symptoms of stress-induced peptic ulcer disease.

Mechanism of action

Mebicar affects key neurotransmitter systems in the brain. It reduces norepinephrine levels, increases serotonin levels, but does not affect the dopaminergic system. It also does not exhibit cholinolytic activity.

Mebicar – dosage

The recommended dosage of Mebicar is 300-500 mg taken 2-3 times a day. The highest allowable single dose is 3 mg, and the daily dose is 10 mg.
