Cerebrolysin

What is cerebrolysin?

Cerebolysin (Cerebrolysin) is a composition of amino acids and peptides derived from pig brain extract. The product is very beneficial for the functioning of the brain, as it exhibits neuroprotective effects, supports regeneration. Not surprisingly, cerebrolysin is used primarily in people after ischemic strokes, traumatic brain injuries and in the course of neurodegenerative diseases.

In unofficial practice, the preparation is used as a nootropic, facilitating learning processes, supporting memory and concentration. Similar nootropic effects are shown by m. phenylpiracetam, among others.

Use of cerebrolysin

Cerebrolysin is used primarily in patients after brain injury and stroke. In clinical studies, the use of cerebrosine has been shown to support motor rehabilitation, improve concentration, benefit mental well-being and reduce fatigue. In people with neurodegenerative diseases, cerebrosine may improve cognitive function. Cerebrosine can stimulate the reconstruction of myelin sheaths of peripheral nerves, so it can improve motor skills in the course of multiple sclerosis or childhood cerebral palsy.

Cerebrolysin can be used to improve memory and concentration, exhibiting effects specific to nootropic preparations. It improves the neuroplasticity of the brain, but does not show an “aggressive” stimulating effect. This profile of action is also demonstrated by Ladasten.

Mechanism of action

The composition of amino acids and peptides contained in the formulation mimics the action of endogenous neurotropic compounds. Cerebrosine contains m. in. Brain-derived neurotrophic factor BDNF, glycoprotein-derived neurotrophic factor GDNF and other compounds that determine normal brain development and function. These types of compounds work especially well in “repair situations,” such as after injury, during inflammation or hypoxia of brain tissue.

Cerebrolysin supports the regenerative processes of the brain, has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Improves neuronal energy metabolism, increasing the use of glucose by brain cells.

Dosage of cerebrolysin

The preparation should be used according to a specific schedule of intravenous or intramuscular injections. The official dosage assumes that the amount of preparation must be adjusted according to the type of health problem. Usually doses of 10 to 50 ml per day are used. The therapy lasts from 10 to 30 days. After that, the product can be used as maintenance therapy, giving cerebrolysin 3 injections every 2 weeks.
